Living A Prepared Life

Living A Prepared Life

We’ve talked about growing up into a mature adult these last few months. More specifically we’ve been talking about how to grow into healthy disciple of Jesus as he helps us mature in areas of our life where we are still very immature. As ‘ve bee preparing for this weekend’s message I have been constantly reminded of how many of us live unaware of Jesus’ return. Scripture talks about how Jesus ascended into heaven with the hopes that he would return and reign on earth. In the meantime, he calls us to learn more about him, to grow in maturity as he helps us, and to fulfill the great commission until Christ returns. Christ’s return has great significance for our lives and also great purpose!

Coming out of high school was super challenging for me. I was denied by all of the schools on my list and never got the chance to go to school to be a music teacher. With crushed dreams, I went to community college to study music where God got a hold on my heart. He showed me undeniable love and extreme kindness in ways no one has ever shown me. Even more than that, he addressed my broken dreams. He repurposed my life, gave me a calling to car for the church and to be present with them and to help them find their identity in Jesus. Well, at first, I said that’s crazy, who wants to do that. But then I began to understand just how much God loved me. I felt overwhelmed as I slowly watched him heal every part of my life that seemed to be falling apart at that time. He won me over. More than that, I was compelled to share this love with others. I felt ready for what he called me to. The only problem was, I was still unprepared to do it. I then spent the next 8 years at bible school studying how I could practically share the love of Jesus with integrity and to be able to handle the word of God with care. Got set me up for success, repurposed me with new direction for my life, and has placed me in a position to multiply what he has given me by sharing it with others. I was aware of Jesus’ coming, willing to say yes to his call, and serving wisely in the right places to do it. It took some time, but he got me there and I still have much to learn. Where are you in this journey? Are you aware that Jesus is coming back soon? Are you being faithful to his call on your life? Do you know his calling for your life?

My First Steps In Faith

My First Steps in Faith

When I first came to faith in Jesus, I was very young. A child at the time, I heard one unifying message no matter where I lived all preaching this gospel. Invite Jesus into your heart, and you will be saved from the condemnation of your soul in hell. Repent and believe in Jesus and you’ll go to heaven, amen. Worship team, come lead us in a song. Oops, I forgot an altar call!… this was the message. Escape hell with Jesus. After learning to walk with the lord for over two decades now, God has made this reality far more complicated than simply avoiding hell. In fact, I’ve been faced with several hellish situations in my life. Is it because I wasn’t truly saved and need to recommit my life to the lord? Maybe…or is it because this message is too simplistic. I think it’s the latter my friends. Our walk with Christ is far more grand than simply living a life under the protection of Jesus. If this was the message we received then it was incomplete. Walking with God, is extremely challenging and truly gets more and more challenging as Jesus shapes us and molds us into his image until he comes back. It’s a day in and day our relationship where we grow in a beautiful relationship living a life of ACTIVE FAITH in Jesus. This is him truly being our savior. Not just a one time salvation, but an active saving; shedding of ourselves and our desires for his and joy he has set before us.
